> Migraine is a common disabling primary headache disorder and is the most widely recognized form of headache for which patients seek medical care

>In adults, attacks last 4 - 72  hours; in children, attacks last 1 - 72 hours

>Typical characteristics of the headache are its location on one side of the head; its pulsating or throbbing quality; pain of moderate to severe intensity aggravated by routine physical activity, such as walking or climbing stairs; nausea; and sensitivity to light (photophobia) and sound (phonophobia)

>Gastrointestinal symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhea, and/or constipation

>Neurologic and/or visual symptoms (aura) occur in approximately 15% of headache sufferers, and may include seeing sparkles or other visual changes, vertigo, problems with coordination, and tingling sensations

>Treatment is based on the individual needs of the patient and may include acute treatment for migraine attacks, preventive treatment to reduce the frequency of headache attacks, and non-medical options including stress reduction and lifestyle techniques, such as changes in diet, etc.
