Goals of Treatment
Site Map

It is unrealistic to expect a “cure” from migraine headaches. Since the sensitive nervous system is prone to migraine, the goal of treatment is to reduce the risk factors that can result in headache. The goals of treatment are to provide the patient with the necessary tools for controlling migraine with confidence.  Goals are individualized and measurable.

You can reach you goal!

Treatment Options at Headache Care Center
Headache Care Center offers a variety of treatment options for our patients. In addition to a team of professionals ready to use their expertise to help get the headaches under control, we offer a variety of treatment options.

Initial and Follow-up Visits

Your initial visit with a Headache Care Center physician will be scheduled for a minimum of 1 hour. However, that visit may last as long as 4-5 hours depending on your individual needs and if treatment is begun. If you are coming from a long distance from the clinic, we may ask that you stay overnight in the area to allow time for further treatment or testing the next day. You can discuss this when you call to make an appointment.
Follow-up visits are important to monitor your progress, or lack of progress. It is important to keep your follow-up appointments to ensure your treatment plan is working for you. Adjustments may need to be made to medications, or new treatment techniques may be appropriate. Initially, your follow-up visits may be more frequent, but our goal is to turn the management of your headaches over to you with follow-up visits to the clinic 1-2 times a year.

Intensive Program

Headache Care Center offers an out-patient Intensive Program for patients whose headaches are not responding well to treatment. This program focuses on thorough evaluation and diagnosis by the interdisciplinary team and treatment strategies specific to each patient.
Our interdisciplinary team consists of medical physicians and nurses, psychologists, and physical therapists. All staff members are involved in treatment and patient education. The treatment modalities utilized in this program include:

> Pharmacologic therapy
> Nursing intervention
> Physical therapy
> Dietary management and education
> Stress management
> Exercise programs
> Individual and family psychotherapy
> Biofeedback and relaxation therapy
> Cognitive-behavioral treatment
> Interactions between patients
> Lifestyle management
> Discharge planning

The program duration is usually 5 days. IV treatments are done twice daily, with multiple appointments with the staff and activities planned for most of each day. You are encouraged to bring a support person with you, such as a family member or close friend. They are invited to participate in the educational and group sessions, and they can provide a strong support system after you have completed the program.

The cost for this program varies depending on your individual treatment needs. An estimate of the fees will be given when discussing this option with your HCC physician.

The Intensive Program can be very effective in breaking the headache cycle and to begin to retrain the nervous system of the migraineur. It requires a significant commitment by the patient to devote the time, the money, and the willingness to participate. There is no “cure” for headaches; however, there are many effective techniques available to help you gain control over headaches. Headache Care Center is here to assist you when you are ready to make the step to be in control.

Hotel accommodations are available within walking distance of the clinic. Our Receptionist will send hotel information on request.

Acute Treatment

All headache sufferers understand there are times that nothing you do seems to relieve the pain of a severe headache. For established Headache Care Center patients, we offer treatment for acute headache not responding to the treatment outlined in the patient’s individualized treatment plan. This is offered as an alternative to a trip to the emergency room, in more comfortable surroundings, by a treatment team that understands your headache, and that costs less than a trip to the emergency room or urgent care.

Treatment Modalities

A variety of treatment modalities are offered at Headache Care Center.

> Occipital Nerve Blocks
> Trigger Point Injections
> Botox Injections (for headache only)
> Acupuncture
> Electrical Stimulation
> I-V Therapy
