Good communication with your doctor is essential for successful treatment. At Headache Care Center, your physician will spend a great deal of time talking with you. When diagnosing headache in particular, your personal and family medical history can provide a lot of information that will be helpful to your doctor. A little preparation for this visit will make for more efficient use of the time you and the doctor have together.
In our experience, there are times when a patient does not share information fully, and there are times the physician may not clearly explain their findings and recommendations. Both issues can limit the success of your treatment. We strive for good communication between our staff and you.
One of the main reasons patients may not fully share information is fear about their headaches, and many people feel nervous when at the doctor’s office. These factors may cause you to forget to share important information. Write down any questions you have and bring them to your appointment. Once you have scheduled an appointment at Headache Care Center, you will receive a new patient packet, which includes several questionnaires. Completing the questionnaires will help generate questions you have, as well as provide important information for your doctor. Reviewing the information on this website may also answer some of your questions about headache. During your visit we will be happy to discuss any questions you have. Our goal is to take the mystery out of headache and relieve your fears through education.
At Headache Care Center, our physicians schedule a minimum of an hour for the initial visit, allowing time to talk with you to get your complete “story”. In addition, we want you to understand the headache process. Your first visit will include education about headache, as well as an interview and physical exam. At the conclusion of your visit, the physician and nurse will talk to you about your treatment plan, and you will receive a written copy of that plan to take with you.
As a member of the treatment team, it is your responsibility to follow the treatment plan to the best of your ability and to schedule and show up for follow appointments. Working together, we can help you gain control over the pain and stop headaches from controlling your life.
