Headache Care Center offers an out-patient Intensive Program for patients whose headaches are not responding to treatment. The purpose of the program is to break the headache cycle and begin to rebalance the nervous system.

The Intensive Program focuses on thorough evaluation and diagnosis by the interdisciplinary treatment team and the use of treatment strategies specific to each patient. Our interdisciplinary team consists of medical physicians and nurses, psychologists, and physical therapists. All staff members are involved in treatment and patient education.

The typical length of the Intensive Program is 5 days, but this may vary depending on individual need. Each day is filled with multiple appointments with members of the treatment team. You are encouraged to bring a support person with you, such as a family member or close friend. They are invited to participate in the educational and group sessions, and they can provide a strong support system after you have completed the program.
At the conclusion of the program, each patient receives an individualized treatment plan.  This may include instructions for your primary care physician to assist with administering the medical portion of your care, as well as activities and techniques learned in the program for you to continue on your own. Follow-up care is handled in a variety of ways, depending on how far you live from Springfield.  If you live a long distance and travel to HCC is limited, follow-up contact may be conducted by phone or through the internet. 

The cost for this program varies depending on your individual treatment needs. Utilizing an out-patient setting to administer the Intensive Program allows us to keep the cost of care significantly less than a comparable in-patient program. An estimate of the fees will be provided when discussing this option with your HCC physician.

The Intensive Program can be very effective in breaking the headache cycle and teaching how to retrain the nervous system of the migraineur. It requires a significant commitment to devote the time, the money, and the willingness to participate. There is no “cure” for headaches; however, there are effective techniques available to help gain control over headaches.
